Dotcom Secrets is one of Russell Brunson‘s books aimed at providing you with tips, strategies, and personal experiences of the founder of ClickFunnels to grow your business. He’s not an affiliate marketer, but he is the creator of a tool that allows almost all affiliate marketers in the world to run their business. So the reading of his books is worth it.
If you want to grow your business, read it: it focuses on acquiring customers and how to manage different lists – because, to be effective and successful, you have to organize your different possible customers and different customers in different lists to reserve them a different and special treatment. It is written by the person who created ClickFunnels – he knows what he is talking about. So I won’t review this book to tell you if it is good or not – it is more than good, but I will focus on some valuable lessons this book contains. This is a personal review. But don’t worry: I will also give you all the relevant information – like the price. Let’s go.

WHO ARE YOU?
“Another challenge people face when communicating with an audience is trying not to offend anyone. So instead of being a relatable person, speakers become bland and stay neutral on many topics, only sharing safe things everyone will love. Here’s the problem“. (p. 78)
The problem is that if you want to have your identity and communicate it because you want to talk to a specific audience, you cannot be neutral. Moreover, neutrality “is boring”. To attract, you need to be polarizing. But you need to find your character first. So ask yourself: Who am I? According to the answer, you will communicate differently and you will attract different people. In this book, Russell Brunson gives us 4 types of attractive identity:
- The Leader
- The Adventurer
- The Reporter
- The Reluctant Hero
If your goal is to lead your audience from one point to another, you are a leader. Of course, if you want to lead other people, this means that you have already achieved the results that your audience wants to reach.
Maybe you have not all the answers, but you are curious, you are achieving results, and you want to share your results with other people. In this case you are an adventurer.
If you are a person who wants to “discover the truth” by interviewing other people and then share this truth, you are a reporter. Usually, this identity then evolves into coaching, so keep in mind that you don’t need to have the same identity for your entire life!
The Reluctant Hero
If you are not comfortable with the spotlight shining on you but you feel that your info and secrets are too important to be hidden, so you want to share them with your audience, you are a reluctant hero.
In any case, tell a story. Another pro of this book is that Russell Brunson will suggest the kind of stories you should tell.
THE STORY OF THE WARM AND COLD PROFESSOR
“They tell a story about a class of 70 economics students who were told they would have a substitute professor for the day. Since this professor was new, each student was to read a short biography of the teacher. The bios that were handed out to all the students were identical – except for one phrase“ (p. 96)
What do you think will be the feedback of those who received the bio telling that the new professor is a warm person?
Remember: when you are creating a funnel – that is, the journey through which you are walking your future customer – each step is a pre-frame for the next step. Take care of it: if the impression you are giving is bad, your audience won’t move to the next step because their judgment towards you will be affected by that first impression!
“First impressions are everything!”…if you are a seller, this is more than a figure of speech!
BE LIKE SEINFELD
“I especially love the episode when George and Jerry are trying to pitch their idea to NBC about starting a show about nothing. It was so funny because the show Seinfeld was literally a show about nothing“. (p. 127)
This doesn’t mean that your content has to be nothing, the suggestion is just don’t bore people!
And this doesn’t mean that you don’t have to send emails…
“… They have a book. They seem more legit”
“You know the difference between you and Tony Robbins or Brendon Burchard?” he asked.
“No,” I responded. “What’s the difference?”
“I think that you content is as good as either of theirs, but the biggest difference between you and them…is that they have a book. They seem more legit,” he said. (p. 176)
I am not telling you that you have to write a book to be legit, or that if you write a book but your content is bad you are better than others. Your content has to be good because nowadays quality is the basis, it doesn’t make the difference. But also in this case, the perception people have of you matters. If you know that your content is good and you know it is worth sharing, but many people still don’t know your name, you should focus on increasing your authority. Yes: authority makes the difference. Think of how many times, when you type something on Google, you choose the website that is most known, maybe the website that someone else suggested you. Building your authority is a fundamental step.
You reached the end of this very personal review. There are a lot of things that I can’t write here – I would need 1M words to tell you all the things I think about this amazing book, you would never read such a long article and I simply cannot copy the whole book here – it would be plagiarism! – and add my comments – It would take months!
You know, in my opinion, there is only one difference between real successful people and people who just pretend to be successful: the former is the group of people that are so sure of what they say and their methods are so proven, that they share their secrets with you for free or for a very low price, because they are not afraid of what they are sharing. When I bought this book it costed $0,99 – I received an email with the offer. Now it is a little more expensive, but if you think that you can learn to build all the sales funnels you need and that you will find real funnels and emails used for email marketing, I think you will realize that the price is still too low!
