Use Google Trends to Improve Your SEO and Increase Organic Traffic to Your Website
Today, let’s talk about this amazing tool every online marketer should use to drive organic traffic, get content ideas and improve SEO for websites: Google Trends.
First of all, let’s answer some questions to discover the benefits of Google Trends:
- Is Google Trends free? Yes
- Can I use Google Trends for keyword research? Yes
- Can I use Google Trends to improve SEO? Yes
- Is Google Trends useful to drive traffic to my website? Yes
- Can I use Google Trends to find content ideas? Yes
So, let’s discover how to use Google Trends properly, because so many times online marketers don’t know what are all the benefits of Google Trends or how to use it to make money online.
How to search on Google Trends
In the home page you can type a word and select a region. Once you do that, you will discover how many times that word or phrase is searched in that region. The best part is that you will find related queries: this will help you to create a more profitable list of keywords and even to target specific regions or subregions.
Compare and improve your SEO with Google Trends
I’m going to show you an example. I would like to know how many times people search for “Affiliate Marketing”. I type the phrase in the home page and this is the result:
I can see that people look for this topic in a sufficiently stable way. In this case I selected “Web Search”, but you can also select YouTube Search, Image Search, Google Shopping Search, Google News Search. You can also select a specific category and increase or decrease the time frame. Along with the results related to my keyword I can analyze the data related to the region, to each subregion and to queries related to the keyword phrase I searched.
Now I check “Affiliate Marketing” with Jaaxy to understand the quality of the keyword and the level of competition.
As you can see, the traffic is great but the quality of the keyword is not great. I will try with something else.
I go back to Google Trends and I compare “Affiliate Marketing” with a more specific keyword: “Wealthy Affiliate“.
As you see, the amount of searches is not as high as for “Affiliate Marketing”, but it is stable. And you know what? If I look at the related queries there is a keyword that calls my attention: “is wealthy affiliate worth it”. Let me go check this keyword with Jaaxy:
The quality of the keyword is great, the competition not so high and the traffic sufficiently good: there is a great possibility to rank first for this keyword. And just under my new keyword, there is another keyword that is worth it: “is wealthy affiliate worth the money“. The competition is even lower. I am going to add this keyword in my Wealthy Affiliate review (but I can give you my answer also here: Yes!).
Doing some simple researches on Google Trends we did a lot of things:
- We narrowed our topic
- We found some profitable keywords
- We increased our possibilities to rank first for some keywords
So, actually, we are creating the opportunity to increase organic traffic to our website and, consequently, to make more money online thanks to Google Trends.
Google Trends Subscriptions
But if you want to find content ideas in an easier way – always using Google Trends – you can set up some subscriptions in order to stay always updated on what is trending and what people are looking for. It can be used along with Google Alerts: doing this, you will no longer be without ideas for your content. Subscriptions and a look at the Home page make it easy to understand how to use Google Trends for content ideas.
As you see, you can add a subscription either for a topic or trending searches. You have to add your email address and decide when you want to receive these updates.
